Call for submissions for the 2023 Brampton Urban Design Awards: Inclusivity 鈥� By Design is now open

The City of Brampton is now calling all urban designers, city builders, architects, artists, and students for submissions for the 2023 Brampton 鈥業nclusivity 鈥揃y Design鈥� Urban Design Awards.  

Applications are now open and will be accepted until Friday, June 09, 2023, 11:59 p.m. EST.  

The Brampton Urban Design Awards is a biennial awards program that celebrates urban design excellence in the city of Brampton and acknowledges significant contributions made by city-builders, urban designers, architects, landscape architects, artists, and design students. These awards promote and celebrate innovation, creativity, and design excellence in the delivery of high-quality, sustainable, and inclusive urban-built environments in Brampton.  

This year the program will focus on new socio-economic themes alongside best practice design standards. Under the theme 鈥�Inclusivity 鈥� By Design鈥�, the 2023 Brampton Urban Design Awards will address themes of Active Design, Ageing Population, Sustainability, Accessibility, Safety, Equity, Health, and Well-being.

Canada鈥檚 Cement and Concrete Industry Launches Action Plan to Net-Zero

The Cement Association of Canada (CAC) 鈥� together with its members and partners in the concrete sector 鈥� released , an Action Plan to ensure Canada鈥檚 cement and concrete industry achieves its carbon emissions reduction goals by making cement net-zero by 2050.

The industry has charted a course towards achieving its goal of 40% emissions reduction by 2030 as part of the 鈥� a unique joint government-industry collaboration. It is also well on its way to transitioning to lower-carbon fuel sources, producing carbon-reduced cements and concretes, and using clean technologies. The cement and concrete industry is also the first to join 鈥� putting it at the leading edge of transparently disclosing and verifying carbon emission reductions.

Toronto Grey to Green Conference

The way to build resilient communities is through green infrastructure. SOSA x TSA Spotlight South Asia (June 08, 2023)

SOSA - The Society of South Asian Architects, Canada in collaboration with TSA - Toronto Society of Architects are pleased to host our annual marquee event Spotlight South Asia at the Centre for Social Innovation, Annex on June 08, 2023.

Spotlight South Asia is a moderated Panel Discussion held annually during the month of May to celebrate the鈥疭outh Asian Heritage Month鈥痠n Ontario.

This year鈥檚 guest panelists are Dev Mehta, Principal, BDP Quadrangle, and Aamer Shirazie, Associate, Manager 鈥� Architecture, Arcadis | IBI.

The discussion will present their background, professional journey and challenges they faced along the way while providing industry insights to professionals, students and new immigrants. The panel discussion will be moderated by members of SOSA鈥檚 Executive Committee.
